The 2024 CAS Fall Festival of the Arts
Juried Fine Art Exhibit, Non-juried Show and Sale

The Creative Art Society 2024 Fall Festival of the Arts Fine Art Exhibit, Show and Sale is a community effort in “Keeping Local Arts Alive”. This event provides an opportunity for members of our nonprofit group and artistic-minded residents of our community to compete in and attend an enjoyable art exhibit, show, and sale.

Every visual medium is represented – Sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, collage, mixed media, jewelry, and glass. There are Fine Art art entries and extra bonus of Unframed Matted and 2-D/3-D Artwork divisions.  Each artist has the opportunity to enter up to 13 pieces.  The event to offer art from over 60+ Michigan artists. CAS offers to produce and host this event to offer art for display and for sale.

All are invited to share in the “Artists' World” at this year’s Creative Art Society’s Fall Festival of the Arts. This year celebrates more than 20 years of successful shows offering artists like you the opportunity to compete in the Fine Art show, as well as share your work, and enjoy viewing all types of art and crafts.

Art Entry Payments and Inquiries

    Apply a $10 discount to your art exhibit entry fee. As an up-to-date 2024-25 CAS MEMBER, your art entry fee is only $25 (+ $3*) to enter the exhibit.

The Creative Art Society Fall Festival of the Arts Exhibit, Show and Sale is a community effort in “Keeping Local Arts Alive”. The 2024 Fall Festival of the Arts Juried Exhibit, Non-Juried Show, and Sale happens this year from October 6th through October 24th, 2024. Art viewing and sales hours are available beginning October 6th through October 24th, 2024 at Downriver Council for the Arts, Wyandotte (map).

Hopefully, all your questions will be addressed from application and art call entry details to art drop-off and pick-up dates and sales. Of course, all rules/regulations may be subject to change for this and future CAS Exhibits, Shows, and Sales. Feel free to contact us if you have questions.

Art Entry Dates - Applications DUE

Applications and Entry fees are accepted until Saturday, September 21, 2024, at midnight. The entry deadline date may be extended so check back with us.

Please send in your application ASAP. Please email your application. You may pay for your entry fee and/or membership fee online with credit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay. If you would like to pay in person or over the phone please reach out to use by email.

Three (3) entries for the Juried Fine Art Exhibition
Five (5) entries for the Unframed Matted Art Show

Art Divisions

There are three divisions in Fall Festival of the Arts

Juried Fine Art Exhibition - Framed Artwork
All work must be prepared for proper display. Outside dimensions of all 2-D and 3-D work must not exceed 160 inches in total circumference and must weigh less than 50 pounds. No glass on artwork larger than 72 inches in circumference. Plexiglass only on larger work - except pastels. Diptychs/ triptychs are not acceptable.

No copies or prints of Fine Art entries. Framed artwork must have appropriate hangers, screw eyes, d-rings, or other appropriate methods from which to attach wire for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers - no exceptions.

The only exception: Plexiglas is required for pieces selected for the Fall Festival of the Arts Show (glass is required only on pastels for CAS exhibits).

Unframed Matted Artwork
All Unframed Matted Artwork is not to exceed 72inches in circumference (16 x 20) and must be in plastic sleeves. Art will be displayed in bins. No copies or prints of Fine Art entries.

Non-Juried 2-D, and 3-D ArtWork
2-D and 3-D Artwork is not to exceed 36 inches in total Including the frame and must be prepared for proper display. Original work only - no commercial molds, patterns, or kits. Jewelry pieces must be secured appropriately and mounted to be hung like a painting or on an appropriate display device such as a neckpiece. Small items (i.e., jewelry), sculpture, 2-D, and 3-D work must be prepared for display. Sculpture, 2-D, and 3-D artwork are not to exceed 36 inches in total including the frame.

Take-In Day

The Delivery of Your Artwork is required on September 28th from 10am to noon at Downriver Council for the Arts (map). Please be sure you have entry labels filled out and placed on the reverse or underside of your artwork. Entry labels are available CLICK HERE.

The juror reviews art after 12:30. The jury process usually takes 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours.

If any of your artwork pieces were not chosen by the juror, we will contact you at the phone number you provided to us with your registration. You will need to pick up your artwork once contacted. If your artwork has been declined by this year’s Juror, picking up your art piece is required between 1:00-2:00 pm.

Artwork must be original works in drawing, printmaking, collage, mixed media, painting, photography, pottery/clay, sculpture, textiles, blown glass, and jewelry are acceptable in all shows. No copies from other artists or published material will be allowed. No commercial molds, patterns, or kits.

Take Down of Show

Artists are required to pick up their art at the end of the Fall Festival Event if it has not sold.

The Pick Up Date is Saturday, October 26th . Each artist is responsible for picking up pieces at the designated times only at Downriver Council for the Arts (map). No work may be removed from the show until the specified pickup time.

Artwork that is not picked up after 10 days will be considered the property of CAS Fall Festival of the Arts and Creative Art Society unless specific arrangements are coordinated with Creative Art Society representatives.

Music Provided by:
Wyandotte resident, Steve Washburn entertains you with enjoyable music. Steve plays acoustic guitar focusing his talents on the music legends of country, pop, and rock.

Many of the visual artists featured at this year’s show and sale will be available for you to discuss their artwork with you during the Opening Reception. Take a stroll and enjoy viewing the show with a pleasing live acoustic background as your soundtrack. The CAS Fall Festival Awards Presentation takes place during the Opening Reception which is located upstairs in the theater at the Downriver Council for the Arts building. 

 

Awards and Prizes

Juried Art Show Exhibitors are eligible to receive the top prizes in this year’s exhibition as chosen by a designated juror. The prizes are as follows:

First Place ($300)
Second Place ($200)
Third Place ($100)
Three (3) Honorable Mention Awards ($30)
Artists’ Choice Award ($100)

Sales

All work must be available for sale. Please set your own price for your artwork. A twenty-five percent (25%) commission is applied to all sales to benefit Fall Festival of the Arts.

Submission

All work must have been completed within the last two years. Work previously accepted in a Fall Festival Fine Art Exhibition cannot be submitted again. Please note CAS keeps a photographic record of all juried artworks

Works created from photographs you have taken, or non-copyrighted or you’ve been given permission by the photographer to use are acceptable.

Artwork completed or started at a workshop will be allowed, as long as the artist completed all of the artwork, and the classwork was not an “all participants class” completing the same art project. Source material must be available upon request.

According to the current copyright law, a copyrighted work is considered infringed by reproducing it in whole or in any substantial part, and by duplicating it exactly or by imitation or simulation. Considerable variations from the copyrighted work are still considered an infringement if the author’s “expression” rather than the author’s “idea” are taken. Except as otherwise noted here, anyone infringing upon copyright is liable for either the copyright owner’s legal damages as well as, any additional profits or statutory damages.

The CAS committee reserves the right to reject unprepared entries or questionable work. Artists are encouraged to maintain their own insurance and are responsible for all sales tax.

Overall Presentation

  • No glass on artwork larger than 72 inches in circumference (16 x 20) - only plexiglass allowed, except for pastel artworks.

  • Framed dry media (i.e, colored pencil, graphite, pastels, photos, and collage) must have glass on them for CAS shows.

  • Either plexiglass or glass may be used on framed watercolors or similar water media to protect the surface from inadvertent damage.

  • All hanging artwork is required to be wired from each side, and ready for hanging. Top center hooks or saw tooth hangers are not acceptable.

  • Work must be dry and in good repair and appropriate to the venue in which it is displayed. No prints allowed.

Gallery-wrapped Canvas

Gallery-wrapped canvas is acceptable without a frame but the canvas must be painted around the sides and edges. No staples can show on the sides. These canvases also require proper hanging devices in a finished manner. Top center hooks or saw tooth hangers are not acceptable - standing pieces must include a pedestal for display, draped if necessary, proportionate to the size of the piece.

Labeling Your Artwork

All work must be labeled on the reverse side of your art piece. On a 3x5 size card, please include whether the art piece is for the juried exhibition, unframed matted, or the non-juried show. Each piece of artwork must be labeled correctly!

Damage

The Creative Art Society, board members, and any CAS members; the venue, and Downriver Council for the Arts organization are not responsible for any damages caused to framed pieces without glass, poorly constructed frames, or hanging devices.

Juror and Juror’s Decision

This year’s Festival of the Arts Juror will be determined soon.

As a Fall Festival exhibiting artist, please know our CAS Jurors are given guidelines and rules of the show. Jurors have the right to reject work that does not meet the standards of the show. The juror’s decisions are final.
